GAZT carries out 1,577 field inspections and issues 187 violations against private schools and training institutes

Riyadh, September 16, 2018:
As part of its efforts to ensure compliance with VAT’s Implementing regulations,
the General Authority for Zakat and Tax (GAZT) issued 187 VAT-related violations during field campaigns targeting private schools, training institutes, bookstores, stationery stores and uniforms shops.

The field campaigns carried out by the inspection teams at the start of the first week of the new school year covered more than 1,577 sites. The violations consisted mainly of issuance VAT invoices by an unregistered person, failure to collect VAT, and failure to include the tax number on the invoice.

Through these field campaigns, GAZT seeks to raise awareness amongst businesses about the importance of implementing the added tax and follow up on how they are implementing, as well as ensuring proper implementation of all VAT procedures.

GAZT initiated its field inspection campaign from the first day VAT went into effect in the Kingdom. To date, more than 9,000 field campaigns covering several sectors have been conducted by GAZT as part of its efforts to ensure businesses’ compliance with the VAT Implementing Regulations.

GAZT also renewed its call to all consumers to use the VAT smart phone app which allows them check whether or not the business they are dealing with is registered in the VAT system, as well as the ability to report infringing businesses. They may also report violations by calling GAZT’s call center (19993).
