GAZT issues 323 tax violations against businesses operating in the telecoms and electronics sectors
Riyadh, 10 August 2018:
As part of its efforts to ensure compliance with VAT’s Implementing regulations,
The General Authority for Zakat and Tax (GAZT) announced that it issued 323 VAT-related violations as a result of its field inspection campaign of shopping malls and shops selling mobile phones and electronics in various regions of the Kingdom.
The field campaigns carried out by the inspection teams at the beginning of this week targeted more than 1,876 sites. The violations issued consisted mainly of failure to use the standard tax receipts which must include the business’ tax number, failure to prominently display the tax registration certificate, and charging VAT by a non-registered business.
GAZT’s ongoing field campaigns aim to raise awareness amongst businesses about the importance of properly applying VAT and its relevant procedures, and follow-up on how VAT implementation is being carried out.
GAZT urged all consumers to use the VAT smart phone app to check whether or not the business they deal with is registered in the tax system, as well as using it to report infringing businesses. Violations may also be reported by calling GAZT’s call center (19993).
