Riyadh, 26 July 2018:
The General Authority for Zakat and Tax (GAZT) announced that issues 643 VAT violations against tourist services agencies, restaurants, cafes and shopping centers in various regions of the Kingdom. The violations were issued during field inspection campaigns conducted by GAZT to ensure business’ compliance to VAT’s implementing regulations.

The field campaigns, which started at the beginning of the week, canvassed 2,363 locations. The violations most related to business’ failing to comply with the standard VAT invoice format, which must mention the tax number and not displaying the VAT registration certificate on the premises.

GAZT noted that its field inspections aim to raise awareness among businesses about the importance of implementing VAT and following up on how enterprises implement the tax, as well as ensuring that the VAT procedures are properly applied.

GAZT also reminded consumers to use the VAT smartphone app to check if the business they deal with is registered in the VAT system, as well the ability to report violations. They may also do so by calling GAZT’s call center which operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to serve all clients.
